Sometimes someone CAN and WILL help you
Just two Blog Posts ago I spoke about being happy and feeling free at work. And I remember saying that YOU have to act because nobody CAN or WILL do that for you.
Today, we’re looking into that a little further.
I’ve been leading people for many years now, and I’m sorry to say that I’ve encountered a lot of men and women that aren’t happy at work. Luckily I’ve been able to prove that having a good leader can make people happier. So, it’s not entirely true that nobody CAN or WILL help you. What I wanted to make clear though is that you shouldn’t make yourself dependent on others.
Most times YOU need to ACT
More than once I was in a situation that one of my employees sat opposite me telling me how unhappy he or she was. And because I’m a leader who cares, I always tried to find a solution to change that situation.
But sometimes it just didn’t seem to work. Although I tried to help, the person involved kept complaining about work, or about me, or about his or her colleagues. In those cases, I tried a final wake up call. I asked him or her not to see me as the boss for a moment, but just as another human being who’s interested in what’s going on.
And then I asked: “If everything is so bad, and you can’t change it because you’re not part of the cause, then what are you still doing here? Prove everyone wrong, change your career and take care of your own luck. Start a new job, become an entrepreneur, do whatever you need to become happy. But don’t paralyze and sit still as a frightened animal. That will never change your situation. This is your life, don’t waste it. YOU need to ACT.”
What about you?
Perhaps you’re reading this thinking: “I’m in a situation like that.” Remember it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is. What is important is that you do something about it. I know that Organizations and Systems can make life hard. In fact, that’s one of the main things that I want to change. But when you can’t improve your current situation from within then you need to get out and start something new.
Thanks so much for being here.
See you on the next one!
